IMG_44265 Ways to Speak Life into Your Life

Have you found yourself talking yourself out of blessings? For example: “I’m not going to do well on this presentation.” Or “Nothing ever goes right in my life.” Or maybe “I’m never going to find someone to love me.” I know I’ve spoken negativity over my life plenty of times and then when the negative things comes to fruition I say, “Welp, I knew that was going to happen.” I often do this because I’m scared of the good happening and I also battle with low self-esteem. So, if anything good starts to happen to me, I automatically think I don’t deserve it.

Most people set goals for the new year (new year, new me …insert eye roll here). But these are 5 easy ways to change your perspective about your life for the new year.

  • Look in the mirror

This is bigger than looking to see if your twist out is poppin’ or if your leave-out is blended or if that beard is shaped to perfection, king! Look at the person looking back you. What are your favorite parts of yourself? Find one thing you love about your face or your personality or your life in general and compliment yourself about it daily. The most important thing to do is believe that you are uniquely and wonderfully made and your opinion is the only opinion that matters.

  • Forgive and let it go

We often get stuck in the trap of holding on to unnecessary anger for those who have wronged us. Take a second to think about the energy you are wasting being angry at someone or actually hating someone. Now, think about what else you could be doing. I guarantee that ex you lothe isn’t worried about you right now. I’m sure that person who cut you off on the interstate has moved on from the road rage from earlier in the day. Some people you encounter in your life are going to disappoint you. Forgive them, let it go, and move on. You can easily forgive someone and not have to continue to have a relationship with that person.

  • Read something other than Social Media

We. Are. Addicted. To. Social. Media. And before you say to yourself, “No, I’m not” think about how long you spend on social media a day. Actually, when you wake up tomorrow, start tracking how long you stayed on social media for the day. That includes: scrolling through Instagram and Facebook, sitting on Twitter, and watching/clicking through people’s snaps. After you do that, think about how many pages of a good book you could have read. Think about a good inspirational blog (such as this one) you could have read and interacted with instead. Reading helps keep you articulate and educated about what is going on in the world.

  • Laugh

This one is self-explanatory. Laughing is great. It makes you feel good for a moment and forget about what you were upset about in the first place.

  • Yes, I can

I literally chuckled when I wrote “Yes, I can” as the 5th tip. I automatically thought about Professor Klump from the Nutty Professor starring Eddie Murphy. So, picture his enthusiasm when he felt like he could accomplish a goal of losing weight and keep that enthusiasm. You are the only person who can stop you from achieving your goals. Change your attitude from “I don’t have time to write a book”, “I don’t have time to go back to school because…” “This isn’t going to work out because…” to “Yes, I can do this.” “Yes, I can do this. Let me set some goals.” “Yes, I can do this. It may take a while but I’ll get it done.” “Yes, I will travel. I will start saving x amount of money per check instead of spending it on shoes.”

These 5 tips are things I am going to work on for 2018. We’re blessed with another year for a reason so take advantage of it.
